  1. I worked this way in Cakewalk Pro Audio and Sonar for years and it it definitely does cut down on the track count and cleans up the workflow but, with the new freeze track function in Pro Tools version 12 I'm not sure this would work. I'm not sure what would happen if you were to freeze an instrument track that already has MIDI clips on it.

  2. Good info! You can also select any notes of a part by using the keyboard instead of lassoing notes, much faster and easier. More accurate. Less grabbing of the notes to leave, yes? IMHO Maximum Respect

  3. See my reply below to daggerblue … if you wanted to play in another groove just arm all the tracks with the same midi input and place a midi input filter on each so that only one specific note for the drum on that track gets through.

  4. There are several points.

    1. You can then edit the drum hits easily to add more or less hits to different sections of a song.
    2. You can then independently automate each track to change velocity and other CC messages differentially on individual drums across the track.
    3. If you want to look at the relationship of one drum sound to another you can either filter the midi output so the track only sends out one note or select and mute the other drum hits in the track retaining your overall view.

  5. I was doing this out of necessity. I had timing problems pointing a midi track to EZ Drummer when using Ozone with most of it's plugins turned on. I discovered that pointing a blank Instrument track to EZ Drummer solved the timing problem.

  6. Maybe you could make a video about the option to route and/or send to track. Instead if routing/sending to a bus and then renaming the bus just route/send things to track. Dealing with buses is confusing for beginners especially.

  7. I don't think I can even see the point of separating out all the midi bits like that either. Just rout the audio to aux tracks, and like you say, leave a master midi region(s) on the superior drummer instrument track.

  8. I've always done something similar to this, but I print down my different drum tracks after I'm finished programming. What I do, is I route everything to it's own output. Hard pan left and right for mono tracks. (It sums back to center anyways) and then the stereo tracks get its own I/O. Example, Kick L and R. Hard pan left, hard right, out 2. Create 2 mono audio tracks and make the input under SD S2-2L and R respectively. For stereo tracks, same thing but obviously with a stereo track. Print.

  9. great idea, but clumsy for SD.. I like the MIDI track all on one. It's much easier. What if you wanted to now play in another drum groove? A master MIDI track works much better IMO. I like to keep OH/Room sounds on it, buss out the single drums and then buss the whole lot to some Massey TapeHead

  10. Do not use alt+command to cascade the inputs if you intend to change only selected tracks. Use alt+shift+command instead, otherwise you will change the inputs of all tracks. 4:20
